Ruben’s Story: When “Everything Looks Normal” But You Still Don’t Feel Normal ๐Ÿ’™

When Ruben first came to Hope Chiropractic, he wasn't new to healthcare.

Over the years, he had worked with countless providers searching for answers to a growing list of symptoms including mid and low back pain, neck pain, hip pain, numbness and tingling in his legs and feet, hand pain and weakness, fatigue, night sweats, dizziness, anxiety, TMJ issues, and persistent muscle spasms.

He had undergone extensive testing through specialists, including MRI imaging, EMG testing, arterial dopplers, hematology evaluations, endocrinology workups, iron infusions, thyroid imaging and biopsies, and even consultations through Mayo Clinic.

Yet the answer he heard over and over again was one many chronic patients know all too well:

"Everything looks normal."

Despite normal scans and testing, Ruben still wasn't feeling like himself.

His body continued sending signals that something wasn't right.

His neurological scans at Hope told a different story.

His initial scans showed significant patterns of stress and dysregulation throughout the nervous system, particularly through the upper cervical spine and thoracic regions responsible for coordinating posture, muscle tone, inflammation, digestion, energy production, and autonomic function.

Instead of a nervous system that could easily adapt and recover from stress, Ruben's body appeared stuck in compensation mode โ€” working overtime just to maintain normal function.

This pattern matched what he was experiencing every day:

  • Recurring low and mid back spasms
  • Neck and thoracic pain
  • Numbness into the legs and feet
  • Morning hand pain and stiffness
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Difficulty recovering from stress
  • Ongoing inflammatory and neurological symptoms without clear explanation

Through consistent neurologically-focused chiropractic care, things began to shift.

The back spasms that had once been a regular part of life became increasingly rare and are now mostly gone.

Episodes of neck, hip, and back pain became less frequent and less intense.

His nervous system scans transformed from a pattern dominated by red stress responses into one showing significantly more green โ€” objective evidence of improved balance, adaptability, and regulation.

Perhaps one of the biggest victories wasn't simply symptom reduction, but understanding.

Ruben shared that he now has a much better understanding of his body and recognizes the things that help him thrive versus the things that push him back into stress and dysfunction.

When asked what he would tell someone considering care at Hope, he said:

"If you're suffering from any pain or discomfort in your body, or just need a friendly smile to make it through the week, join Hope NOW!"

He also added:

"I really appreciate the care team and they are all top notch. Dr. Nick and Dr. Heather are AMAZING too."

Ruben's story reminds us that symptoms are often not the problem โ€” they're the body's way of asking for help.

Sometimes the missing piece isn't another test or another medication.

Sometimes it's helping the nervous system finally move from surviving to healing. ๐Ÿ’™
